Neurological Conditions

As we age, our risk of developing some neurological conditions increases. While dementia is increasingly widely recognised, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease are among the more common neurological conditions that we may develop.

Other long term neurological conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, may have an increased effect on independence when impacted by the ageing process. In all, it is estimated that there are 4.7 million neurological cases in England.

Neurological conditions can have a variety of symptoms, including: difficulties with balance, mobility and co-ordination; sensory changes and chronic pain; and speech, language and memory problems. Maintaining independent living with these symptoms can be a real challenge.

Maximising your physical and cognitive abilities and providing psychological support helps maintain independence, confidence and motivation, good for both your physical and emotional well being. Whether on a journey of rehabilitation or of symptom management, with these conditions care and support often requires specialist therapeutic input:

  • Physiotherapy: improve strength, postural stability, balance and co-ordination; help with pain management.
  • Occupational therapy: equipment provision; gain independence in activities of daily living; enable a return to functional or social activities, or to work.
  • Speech and Language therapy: help with specific swallowing issues and communication.
  • Psychology: address neurobehavioral problems related to nervous system disorders; support the client and their family to understand and adjust to the changes.

All About Home Care and its specialist partner, Neuro Rehabilitation Kent, have designed an integrated neurological care and re-ablement approach specifically to reinforce and support the therapeutic input.
